Definition of [4Fe-4S]

1. Designation of a four-iron, four-labile-sulfur cluster in a protein. (See [2Fe-2S]). Possible oxidation levels of the clusters are [4Fe-4S]3+; [4Fe-4S]2+; [4Fe-4S]+. See also ferredoxin, HiPIP.
