Definition of extrinsic semiconductor

  1. a semiconductor in which the free carriers are predominantly of one type. Extrinsic semiconductors in which electrons are the dominant (majority) carrier are n-type, and extrinsic semiconductors in which holes are the dominant (majority) carrier are p-type.
