Definition of half-life, t1/2 (SI unit: s)

  1. In a kinetic experiment, the time required for the concentration of a particular reacting species to fall to one-half of its initial value. (Its dependence on initial concentration depends upon the order of reaction. It is independent of initial concentration only for a first-order process.) See also lifetime.
