Definition of Haloperoxidase

1. A peroxidase which catalyzes the oxidative transformation of halides to XO- (X being Cl, Br or I), or organic halogen compounds. Most are hemeproteins, but some bromoperoxidases from algae are vanadium-containing enzymes .
