Definition of Heterogeneous Catalysis

1. A process where you have one material supporting the actual catalyst for a reaction.  One common example is where a porous inorganic material (such as a zeolite) supports small metal particles.  Through using small particles, you maximize the catalyst surface area, making it more efficient.
