Definition of iminium compounds

1. Salts in which the cation has the structure R2C=N+R2. Thus N-hydronated imines and their N-substituted derivatives. RNRI Rule RC-82.1.2.1. The synonymous terms imonium compounds and immonium compounds are irregularly formed and should not be used. Cf. quaternary ammonium compounds.
