Definition of inductively coupled plasma (ICP)

  1. a plasma that is driven by a current oscillating in a coil, either around or adjacent to the vacuum vessel. The oscillating current gives rise to a time-varying magnetic field in the gas, which induces a local electric field, which accelerates electrons and excites the plasma. [SEMATECH]
