Definition of Inductors

  1. An inductor is a coil of wire that stores energy as a magnetic field. The coil is usually wrapped around an iron-containing core, which increases the amount of energy that can be stored by the inductor.

    Inductance is the proportionality factor that relates voltage, V, to the rate of change of current, dI/dt, through an inductor.
