1. 1. A prefix used in biochemical nomenclature in place of phosphono to denote the -P(=O)(OH)2 group linked to a heteroatom. BNRD Nomenclature of Phosphorus-Containing Compounds of Biochemical Importance, Rule 1 (p. 256). E.g. Me3N+-CH2CH2OP(=O)(OH)O- phosphocholine.

   2. An infix used in biochemical nomenclature to name phosphoric diesters. BNRD Nomenclature of Phosphorus-Containing Compounds of Biochemical Importance, Rule 4 (p. 256). Cf. phosphoglycerides. E.g. glycerophosphocholine.
