Here's the review question:
S(s) + HNO3(aq) ----> SO2(g) + NO(g) + H2O(L)
a) write the oxidation half reaction
b)write the reduction half reaction
c) write the balanced equation for the above reaction
I am having trouble assigning oxidation numbers, for I don't know whether to count NO3 as a polyatomic or an two separate elements

| you'll need to consider the oxidation state of each element, although oxygen almost always has an oxidation state of -2 e.g. The state of nitrogen has changed.
