I want to know if ethan1,1 diol is stable enough for esterification with methanoic acid. The product would be a structural isomer of lactic acid ( 2 hydroxy propanoic acid ) and thus a non-acidic alternative to 3 hydroxy propanoic acid for finding a structural isomer to lactic acid in exam questions that did not have enantiomers.
